N-Network

We are a group of scholars from different building cultures of Asia. And we are keen to involve many more scholars/researchers interested in studying the history of construction in Asia.

Welcome to the Asian Construction History Network (ACHN)

The history of construction in Asia has not received the scholarly attention it deserves. Though this continent is the cradle of civilization, and masterpieces of ancient architecture or building techniques first appeared in this region, the Western-led scholarship has commonly ignored the achievements unique to Asia. The same is true for the accomplishments of the Asian architects and engineers in the Modern era. As a network of scholars, we aim to fill this gap in knowledge.

The Asian Construction History Network (ACHN) – officially founded after the first Virtual Meeting of the founding members on 2 November, 2021 – raises new hopes for conducting deep and meaningful research in the realm of construction history in Asia. Initiated by a group of scholars based in Asia and/or researching on Asia, this Network aims to promote Asian construction history research internationally, as well as enhance networking and cooperation in the sphere of construction history in Asia. In the near future, it is expected that the Network will involve many more scholars/researchers interested in studying the history of construction in Asia.
