“ACHN Online Seminar Series” is one of our ACHN projects. Several possibilities are currently under discussion for the upcoming seminar series, as outlined below:
We are considering scheduling the seminar series for later this year, most likely in September or later, to allow us adequate time for planning. We may also aim to coordinate the timing of the seminar series with the in-person conference of ACHN, to create synergy wherever possible.
We have identified several themes of common interest, including:
a. Actors and Agency: In addition to exploring the roles of well-known architects and builders, we are interested in studying the con tributions of marginalized figures, such as self-taught "architects" and building laborers.
b. Techniques: We plan to investigate the types of labor, work, expertise, and tools involved in construction history, based on Arendt's famous distinction.
c. Networks: Our aim is to expand beyond national and regional histories and explore connections between various regions, particularly South-South networks, that challenge traditional territorial boundaries.
d. Archives, Language, and Scholarship: We will also consider how archives, language, and scholarship shape the study of construction history.
While the format of the seminar series is still under discussion, we currently prefer a thematic approach that groups scholars working on different regions together. Additionally, we may invite a renowned scholar to give a lecture and kick off the seminar series on a strong note.
